The results are there, so let’s take a look.
Measured video playback on a remote PC
When running this test on AnyDesk with a one-minute video, the maximum download bandwidth was about 184 KB/s, while the maximum upload rate was 4.5 KB/s.
While playing a video, 20 MB was downloaded, while only 506 KB was downloaded when using AnyDesk.
We repeated the same test with the same one-minute video using TeamViewer and measured a maximum bandwidth of 96 KB/s on the remote PC, while the download speed was 4 KB/s.
Although we used the same video, the total amount of data downloaded was 5 MB, while the download was only 271 KB.

Measured multitasking on a remote PC
During intensive multitasking with switching between applications and heavy scrolling, we reached a maximum download bandwidth of 1 MB/s in AnyDesk.
Note that this is the maximum bandwidth used, and we reached these values during large scrolls, window movements or switching between applications. For other, less intensive activities, bandwidth usage was significantly lower.
In terms of throughput, we reached a maximum of 40 KB/s in multitasking.
TeamViewer, on the other hand, offers almost the same results for everyday tasks, namely 96 KB/s download and 4 KB/s upload at maximum speed.

Video playback measured on the host computer
We measured the bandwidth of our host computer while playing a one-minute YouTube video. The maximum download bandwidth was 1 MB/s, while the maximum download speed was 31 Kbps.
During this short one-minute session, 45 MB were downloaded and 1.1 MB were uploaded.
When we switched to TeamViewer, we got a maximum bandwidth of 100 KB/s and 4.6 KB/s in upload. During playback of one minute of video, 3.4 MB and 270 KB were downloaded.

During our multitasking session, we measured a maximum throughput of 706 KB/s on our host machine while we were heavily multitasking. Bandwidth usage was significantly lower for less intensive tasks.
In terms of download bandwidth, we received a maximum of 20kbps while multitasking on your host.
With TeamViewer we achieved almost the same results as with video playback, i.e. we achieved a maximum download bandwidth of about 100 KB/s and an upload bandwidth of up to 4.6 KB/s.

Judging by the results, it seems that AnyDesk achieved higher bandwidth usage, especially during intensive multitasking activities. Note that these values represent only the maximum bandwidth peaks we measured.
For less intensive tasks, the bandwidth usage in AnyDesk decreased significantly and was on average closer to the bandwidth usage of TeamViewer.
Performance and image quality
In our tests, we noticed a big difference in image quality and latency between AnyDesk and TeamViewer.
Although AnyDesk consumed slightly more bandwidth, especially during heavy multitasking, image quality was excellent and there were no slowdown issues during remote sessions.
The sessions in AnyDesk also went smoothly when playing the media, there were no delays or issues with image quality or lag.
On the other hand, TeamViewer consumed less bandwidth, but this had a negative impact on overall image quality and performance.
With TeamViewer we often experienced delays and remote sessions were slow. There were many delays during multimedia playback and the picture was often blurry.
Although AnyDesk uses a lot of bandwidth, it uses this to its advantage and ensures that remote sessions run smoothly without delays or problems.
AnyDesk offers an intuitive interface that allows you to conduct remote sessions by simply entering the ID of the remote device and clicking the Connect button.
All your sessions are encrypted with TLS 1.2 technology, and there’s even an asymmetric RSA 2048 key exchange for added security and verification.
For added security, you can use two-factor authentication or create a whitelist of devices that are allowed to connect to the host.
Permission management is also available, and you can restrict remote clients’ access to the keyboard and mouse or the clipboard at any time with a single click.
You can also prevent clients from rebooting the device with a file manager or from requesting system information. These are just a few of the available permissions that you can revoke at any time.
The software also provides a file transfer feature that allows you to easily share files. You can also draw on the screen if needed to better work with the host.
TeamViewer has a simple user interface. To start a remote session, enter the device ID and the password assigned by TeamViewer.
Once you are connected to the device, you can communicate with the host, and there is even an option for audio or video chat. A whiteboard function is also available, allowing you to draw on an external desktop.
Like other similar tools, TeamViewer supports file transfer, and you can easily and quickly transfer files between your host and client devices.
As for security, TeamViewer encrypts your sessions with 256-bit AES encryption, and there is RSA 4096 key exchange for additional security.
The software supports two-factor authentication, so you can be sure that only authorized users can access your PC.
For added security, there is a whitelist and blacklist feature that allows access only to certain devices.
AnyDesk vs. TeamViewer, which one should I choose?
Both AnyDesk and TeamViewer offer excellent functionality, but when it comes to bandwidth usage, AnyDesk consumes slightly more bandwidth, but offers unmatched performance and image quality.
Our AnyDesk sessions went smoothly without any delays and the picture was always clear. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for TeamViewer.
